Group Therapy

Group Therapy in Salt Lake City

We specialize in group therapy that ranges from wellness groups to more traditional psychotherapy groups.

Group therapy is a great way to learn new skills, see that you are not alone, challenge beliefs and assumptions about yourself, and form authentic relationships.

Feeling like life is fast forward, difficulties with relationships, anxiety, depression, PTSD, sleep difficulties, are all struggles that we can address in group therapy.

We have groups that are educational in nature such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) that all have a slightly different focus and at the same time teach core skills of mindfulness and compassion while focussing on stress, self-compassion, and mood, respectively.

This is great for anyone who feels like life is living you and would like to be more present.

We also offer Interpersonal Process Groups that generally consist of 6 to 10 clients and one or two therapists that focus on the here and now reactions of each other and learn to develop deep connections.

This is an opportunity to be in an abnormal setting in which the expectation is to share honest reactions and responses to one another. Through this process, clients get to check out their own perceptions of how they believe people see them and give this feedback to others. Forming such honest connections with themselves and others leads to deeper and more meaningful interpersonal relationships outside of group.

Through connection, support, validation, and challenging interactions clients tend to work through challenging beliefs and emotions that often contribute to anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

This group is great for testing out new ways of being in a safe and supportive environment.

This group is great for anybody interested in deepening their compassion for themselves, forming deeper and more authentic connections with people in their lives, have negative perceptions of self or others, avoid conflict, and/or who struggle to have relationships due to conflict.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Group (MBSR) (eight weeks)

MBSR is the foundational mindfulness training that was introduced into modern medicine in 1979 and has influenced the development of all Mindfulness Based Interventions and isince that time.

It has become the gold standard in stress-reduction classes. Over the course of eight weeks you will learn foundational mindfulness practices including breath awareness, body scan, and mindful movement which will give you the skills to bring mindfulness to all aspects of your daily life. MBSR is really helpful for everyone.

Some common difficulties people find benefit for: anxiety, depression, PTSD, stress management, burnout/empathy fatigue, insomnia, chronic pain, and more.

Mindful Self-Compassion Group (MSC) (eight weeks)

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an 8-week group in which participants will learn mindfulness with a major focus on compassion (both self-compassion and compassion for others).

Many people find that they are incredibly hard on themselves and self-critical, especially during times of struggle.

MSC helps move you from a critical and judgmental inner “coach,” to a supportive, kind, understanding, and motivational inner “coach.”

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy Group (MBCT) (eight weeks)

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an eight-week group in which you will learn various practices of mindfulness and how these practices relate to your mental health and wellbeing.

Originally, MBCT was developed to help with prevention and relapse of depression; however, we now use this class to address anxiety, PTSD, and chronic pain, in addition to it’s original aim.

The main focus of MBCT is working with thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a mindful way so that you are able to view thoughts for what they are,
not facts, and learn how to work with difficult emotions and sensations in the body. Education on depression is also presented since it correlates so heavily with other conditions.

ACT Group for Seasonal Mood Changes

This group varies in duration and length of sessions depending on needs of the cohort.

Focus is on values clarification, goal setting, and group accountability from an Acceptance and Commitment
Therapy (ACT) approach.

This group is meant for anyone struggling in the winter months with changes in mood, energy, quality of life, or difficulty in setting and meeting personal goals that are in line with self-care, mental health management, and valued living.

The ACT model incorporates ways to be more mindful so you can make decisions that matter to you and navigate psychological barriers to meeting goals in line with your personal values.

The harsh inner critic is always nagging you.

It seems like no matter how hard you try, it's never good enough.

Your achievements feel overlooked, and you can't shake the feeling that you could always do more.

Maybe you feel disconnected or struggle to trust others, always trying to please them but forgetting yourself.

You're dedicated to your work, but at what cost? Your personal life takes a backseat, and the balance just isn't there.
